The Original Design Gangsta

Apparently, I'm the last person to hear about Kyle T. Webster's hilarious Design Gangsta video (at least according to my students). Of course, my students would do just about anything to avoid working on actual class projects, but they are well versed in design a la pop culture. At least they get the humor. But, Kyle, man, did you vertically stretch the Rosewood that rolls past the Mini? Shamies, you crazy gangsta.

Hi, Charmaine - thanks for the ODG post!
Yes, I stretched that awful type with RELISH! It was all part of the joke - the design in the video is simply awful, which I thought would add to the humor. Unfortunately, I got a lot of hate mail from people who claimed I was just a poser and did not know anything about design, since I broke so many basic rules in my video. The joke did not work, apparently. Still, I'm glad people get a kick out of it and who knew there were so many of us out there who would get all the references? Best wishes to you - Kyle

I figured that type bastardization was all part of the gangsta thang. You know graphic designers: they can be a very testy bunch. So sensitive about their black wardrobes and nerd-chic glasses. Let me know if you ever want to come to the lovely California Central Coast and throw down some gangsta smack at my g.d. students. Cheers -- Charmaine
